Multicultural advisory committee

Aims and objectives

Waverley is a culturally diverse community where people speak different languages and hold a range of religious and spiritual beliefs. 38% of our residents were born overseas. Over many decades Waverley’s migration history has shaped this vibrant and dynamic community. The area is known for its cosmopolitan flair, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, delicious food from around the globe and rich cultural and artistic expression.

The purpose of the Multicultural Advisory Committee is to provide a forum for people to:

  • Find out what’s happening in the Waverley community
  • Tackle broad local issues
  • Help improve Council’s access and inclusion strategies
  • Participate in activities and events that promote community harmony and social cohesion
  • Develop networks and community partnerships

Committee members are invited to:

  • Contribute positively in group discussions
  • Have a say in shaping policy
  • Work together to contribute to shared community understandings
  • Support activities and events

Membership

The committee is currently chaired by Councillor Paula Masselos. Multicultural Advisory Committee members are:

  • Often from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who live, study or work in the Waverley LGA; or
  • Currently working/volunteering in related services
