Car Share
Car sharing provides residents with twenty – four hour access to a number of shared vehicles parked in their neighbourhood. Once residents have joined the program, they can book vehicles for as little as an hour via the phone or internet.
The service, provided by GoGet, is an affordable and convenient way for people to access cars without having to worry about parking, registration, insurance and all the other hassles and costs associated with owning a car. It provides a viable option for individuals who don't need a car full time, but need to supplement public transport usage, walking or cycling with occasional private car use. There is the potential to reduce car ownership, road congestion and pollution and deliver environmental benefits.
Waverley Council has provided two locations, called ‘pods’, at Bondi Beach and at Bondi Junction for car share vehicles. Waverley Council is the first Council in NSW to provide dedicated on-street parking spaces for car share vehicles so that members will be able to pick cars up from the same spot every time.
GoGet was launched in the Waverley area on 20 January 2006.

Car-sharing provides the following benefits to the community:
- less car usage, which leads to less traffic and improved air quality;
- reduced number of cars on our roads. The average private car spends most of the time parked while a car share car can be shared by between 10 or 20 people;
- better environmental outcomes through new, fuel-efficient vehicles which means that people are getting out of older, inefficient vehicles and into a cars that are new, well maintained, safer and better for the environment; and
- letting public transport to compete with the car on level playing field, by including all the costs of a car up-front and highlighting the value of public transport.
