Young People

The Waverley area has a range of services targeting the 8589 young people aged 12-24  who live locally.  These include a youth centre, outreach services, accommodation programs, health services, counselling and employment programs.

Council is committed to ensuring a range of quality services for our youth. Services are provided directly by Council or through financial or management support to local organisations.  We provide financial or management support to local Out of School Hour Services, WAYS, Bondi Outreach Project and the Safe Summer Survival Project.

Up to five live youth music events are held each year at Bondi Pavilion and Youth Week activities including the annual Bondi Blitz Concert and the WAYS school forum.

In January this year Council ran it's first JUNGA SOUNDS music event in Waverley Mall Bondi Junction. The event showcased young local musicians and the opportunity for Waverley's young residents to enjoy music and a bite to eat in the local cafes. Council also ran a consultation at this event asking young people what their needs, interests and feedback was in relation to recreation in Bondi Junction. Many young people mentioned they felt safe in Bondi Junction and were keen for more music and social underage events.

This year,  National Youth Week NSW was on April 10 - 18 and Council supported the following events:

Bondi Blitz

A free live drug and alcohol free concert showcasting: Snob Scrilla, Kid Mac, Chemical Transport (EP Launch!), Town Hall Steps, Chaingang, Sienna Skies, Particles, The Khanz (EP launch!), Jeff and Thieves.

Facebook Exhibit

This year's Bondi Blitz inluded a FACEBOOK EXHIBIT by artist Julia Burns that highlights privacy issues for young people using social networking sites.

Get Involved

Waverley Council is keen to hear from local young people interested in participating or being consulted in events and projects involving:

  • music
  • skating
  • graffiti & mural art

Bondi Promenade Wall

promenade wall
Make your mark on the Bondi beach sea wall ... Graffiti artists are invited to submit an application to paint a mural.

The history of aerosol art painted on Bondi wall dates back to the 1960’s, and the wall continues to contribute to the energetic character of Bondi Beach. Waverley Council will aim to maintain this dynamic character by supporting mural turnover. Diversity will be achieved through balancing the type of murals painted and the variety of artists selected.
