Civic ceremonies

Waverley Council hosts a number of civic ceremonies throughout the year. These ceremonies help to celebrate our community's many achievements, its cultural diversity and our nation's history.

Citizenship ceremonies

Waverley Council hosts citizenship ceremonies every month for local residents who have been approved by the Department of Immigration & Border Protection (DIBP) to become Australian citizens.

Australia Day

We celebrate our cultural diversity on Australia Day each year with a bigger than usual citizenship ceremony attended by new citizens, their family and friends.  We welcome them to our Waverley community along with a special guest, our Australia Day Ambassador.

Anzac Day march down Bondi Rd.

Anzac Day

We commemorate Anzac Day and pay tribute to members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) each year on 25 April with a service in Waverley Park, Bondi Junction. Commencing at 7.45am, the community is invited to attend the service to remember and pay respect to the work of our military servicemen and women.

Council often also hosts a special Anzac Commemorative Service on the Sunday prior to Anzac Day at 3pm, with participating members of the local Retired and Services League Clubs, schools, various community groups and government.

Russia Victory Day

Each year, Council comes together with the local Russian community to commemorate Russia Victory Day on 9 May, with a special service in Waverley Park, Bondi Junction.

Remembrance Day

On 11 November, Council commemorates Remembrance Day at 11am with a service in Waverley Park, Bondi Junction.
