Other volunteering opportunities

There are so many fantastic opportunities for volunteering in the community. Take a look at some of these other exciting ideas:

  • Do Something Near You is Australia's definitive community directory and volunteer portal. The website provides important links between charities, councils and communities.
  • Assist a young person in the community to get their drivers licence as a volunteer driving instructor for the Green Light Movement (GLM). A pilot project of Bondi Youth Accommodation, GLM is a reduced fee, learn to drive program that offers supervised driver training for young people who have experienced homelessness and do not have parental support to learn to drive.
  • Waverley Council offers a Justice of the Peace service which operates from the Customer Service Centre on Spring St, Bondi Junction. To volunteer your JP skills and join this group contact the NSW Justices Association Eastern Suburbs Branch on email easternsuburbs@nswja.org.au
  • Centennial Parklands offers many opportunities for volunteers to get involved in taking tours around the park, regeneration of the pond, growing plants in the community nursery and much more!
  • WIRES is the largest animal rescue organisation in Australia and are looking for volunteers in the Eastern Suburbs for a range of interesting roles such as animal handling and rescue, caring for injured or orphaned wildlife, fundraising, administration and database management and speaking to the community and school groups.
  • City East Community College runs a Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program (SMMP) that matches organisations with individuals interested in gaining some local work experience.
  • Echo Neighbourhood Centre as based in Bondi Junction and provide social support to frail aged, people with disabilities, and/or dementia, and their carers.
