NSW Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events.

What’s on in Waverley for Youth Week:

Bondi Blitz (Ages 12+)
Sunday 15 April, 11am-5pm

WAYS Youth Services, Waverley Council and Woollahra Council present Bondi Blitz 2018. The annual Blitz festival is an all-ages, drug & alcohol free music event, showcasing young performers.


Grom Surfing Lessons with Let's Go Surfing (Ages 12+)
Sunday 15 April, 11am-12pm and 12-1pm
Let's Go Surfing Shop (next to Lush Cafe at Bondi Pavilion)

Be part of a one hour surfing lesson at Bondi Beach. Let’s Go Surfing’s team of experienced PE teachers and sports scientists have designed programs to provide education, maximum fun and safety for young people. Parent permission required for people under 18 years.


Walangari’s Aboriginal Walking Tour and Boomerang Painting (Ages 9-16)
Monday 16 and 23 April, 10am-1pm
Meeting point: The chimney at the North Bondi Golf Club, cnr Military Rd and Blair St.

Come along and join Aboriginal Elder and local resident, Walangari Karntawarra, for a gentle downhill walking tour of the Bondi coastal area, and then paint your interpretation of this iconic environment in an interactive boomerang painting workshop.


Collage at the Library (Ages 13 – 18)

Don’t think you are that creative or arty? Then you should try collage!

Using an array of items such as magazine and newspaper clippings, discarded books, photographs, found objects, and so much more you can create your own unique work of art. All materials provided.


Henna at the Library (Ages 13 – 18)
Thursday 19 April, 2.30 – 4pm

Learn the creative use of henna with Henna Artist Polina Volkova wo will be teaching the fundamentals of henna art from its ancient origins and history to simple drawing techniques used to master your first design. A fun, interactive session of hands on activities tips and tricks where you walk away with your own henna cone! No previous art experience necessary, just lots of henna enthusiasm.


YA Bookclub (Ages 14 – 16)

Get in at ground level of a great new young adult book club at Waverley Library! We’re launching a book club for teens aged 14 – 16 years, and we’d love to hear your ideas! Come along to a discussion session to talk about what you’d like to see in your book club.


Toy Choir Skills Workshop (Girls ages 9-18)

In this two day workshop girls aged 9-18 will learn singing technique, basic ukulele accompaniment and 3 songs out of the Toy Choir repertoire. All songs written by the Toy Choir are created by the girls themselves.


Toy Choir Writing Workshop (Girls ages 10-18)
Monday 23 April - Tuesday 24 April, 10am-2pm

$140 fee (15 scholarships available)

The Toy Choir is a collective of girls aged 10-20 who meet regularly to write and perform their own songs. In this two day workshop, you will be shown the techniques the girls use to write their own music.

Over the course of a day, each girl participating will have created a story and learnt how to structure it into a song. An audio-visual artist will be on site to capture the girls’ creations and together, they will create an accompanying video clip.

Bursting with happiness the Toy Choir brings the sweet perfection of young voices with the joyous sounds of sugar pop harmonies and infectious ukulele strumming. Overflowing with lyrics and images inspired by the Australian landscape, the Toy Choir is uniquely hearing the ideas and impressions of girls and young women in Australia today.


Tender Young Creatures performance

Tender Young Creatures is a live installation centred around the theme of young women walking at night. Inspired by the classic tale of Red Riding Hood, 16 young female performers and singers reignite Red’s story and asks us to consider fear, the thing which we feed most.
