Waverley Community Living Project (WCLP) provides medium-term subsidised accommodation, independent living skills training and transition support to enable people with a mild intellectual disability to move towards independent living in the Waverley community. The service aims to help people realise their dream of living more independently, and promotes community inclusion, skill development and lifestyle choices.
The service is funded by the NSW Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care (DADHC) and supported by Waverley Council. Part of Council’s Library and Community Services Division, it operates from the Mill Hill Centre in Bondi Junction.
The Service employs a full time Coordinator and three part time Social Educators. Staff have expertise in the areas of education, accommodation, welfare, community development, habilitation studies and community transition for people with disabilities. Recruitment and staff support processes are client focussed and consistent with current best practice.
Waverley Community Living Project provides:

How does it work?
The Waverley Community Living Project provides a flexible accommodation model which recognises that people develop new skills, change and grow. WCLP provides two services known as the ‘Independent Living Service’ (ILS) and ‘Home Education Service’ (HES).
The Independent Living Service provides medium-term subsidised rental accommodation. Support is provided using a staff ‘drop in’ support model. Services are designed to help clients learn the skills needed to maintain a tenancy and related social support networks. The Home Education Service also uses a ‘drop in’ support model to provide individual in-home living support and independent living skills training for people with other accommodation arrangements.
In both the Independent Living Service and the Home Education Service, people learn everyday skills, including basic home maintenance, cooking, time management, decision making, problem solving and budgeting. Staff work co-operatively with other agencies and encourage and support each client’s own informal social support network, including family and friends.
Service commitment
We aim to provide service at a high standard, and engage in continuous quality improvement activities. As far as possible, our service is flexible and responsive to individual client needs. We regularly seek feedback on service quality.
