Waverley Council is committed to making Waverley accessible to all people regardless of ability or disability.
The Waverley Access Committee has a broad membership of Councillors, staff and community representatives who may be residents, carers or service providers for people with a disability. This Committee meets monthly and any person who lives, works or visits in the Waverley local government area may attend meetings
The Access Committee:
monitors and consults on policies of Council with respect to disability and access issues
raises local access issues for action
informs Council what is occurring in the disability sector
The Committee has recently been active in projects which are aimed at improving physical access to local businesses.
Go to Access Aware to learn more about how a business can self-assess for accessibility and increase their customer reach.
The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and Marrickville Council have recently produced a booklet called ‘Missed Business’ which also explains how to make business premises and services more accessible to people with disabilities.
