Visit Waverley Cemetery on ANZAC Day and reflect on the
contribution made by the men and women of Australia's Armed Services.
The Friends of Waverley Cemetery will mark a number of
WWI and WWII war graves with ribbons. Over 200 war graves are contained
within the cemetery. Those closest to the walkways and roadways will be
marked because they offer the greatest pedestrian accessibility for
visitors.
Cemetery Office Hours
9am - 5pm Weekdays, 9am - 3pm Saturdays.
The Cemetery Office is closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.

APRIL
EASTER SUNDAY REMEMBRANCE SERVICE
Easter Sunday, 16 April- 3pm - Irish Martyrs Memorial.
A remembrance service for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their
beliefs for Ireland to be a united independent country.
ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION
25 April - Dawn - Cemetery Gates.
A remembrance service for all servicemen & women who have served Australia
and New Zealand in wartime who did not return from the battle fields. Some
conflicts Australian and New Zealand forces have been involved with include
Boar War, WW1, WW2, The Korean conflict, The Vietnam conflict, Desert
Storm/Middle east conflict, peace keeping mission Iraq.
MAY
AMERICAN MEMORIAL DAY
SERVICE POSTPONED - Circle Memorial Garden.
First celebrated at Waverley in 1980 by expatriate United States war
veterans this service echoes the Memorial Day activities in the USA. Similar
in meaning to Anzac Day, this service is to remember all the US Service
personnel who have died defending their constitutional rights to freedom of
speech and their flag. The American Consul General or representative
delivers the annual Memorial Day address. Waverley has the honour of holding
the first commemoration in the world each year.
NOVEMBER
CEMETERY DAY
1 November - from 7am.
On this day (closest operation day to 2 November) we invite all those who
have family or relatives interred at Waverley to come and visit their
resting-places and tend the graves. Free grave look-ups are available
between 9am and 12 noon from the office. On the spot maintenance can also be
arranged.

Waverley Cemetery has a dedicated group of volunteers to help with
raising the awareness of the value of the cemetery to the general public.
The friends help conduct guided tours and all proceeds go towards the
preservation of the cemetery. The Friends also provide volunteer assistance
to identify monuments for restoration and fund raising for memorial
restoriations.
