Evening, Culture and Entertainment Strategy

Great cities provide activity, culture and convenience - day and night. We're currently working on a draft Evening, Culture and Entertainment Strategy to ensure public spaces in Waverley are safe and vibrant in the day and into the evening. The strategy is now open for feedback during an exhibition period until 9 October at haveyoursaywaverley.com.au/afterdark

A key aspiration of the Bondi Junction community is for more activity and things to do in the evening. In particular, there is a demand for activities that attract families and young children, moving away from the traditional focus on alcohol-based evening culture and entertainment options. Activating a night economy is a crucial component of ensuring Bondi Junction is a safe, productive and well-loved place.

You highlighted that Spring Street, Oxford Street, Bronte Road and Waverley Mall were areas that you think would benefit from further evening activation. Oxford Street Mall, the heart of Bondi Junction, drops significantly in activity after 6pm once the majority of shops and businesses close.

We want to work with residents, traders, creative industries and other partners to deliver our Heartbeat of the East vision for Bondi Junction - ensuring it is an attractive evening destination for everyone.

Our draft Evening, Culture and Entertainment Strategy will be on public exhibition in September 2017 for your feedback and we want to hear from you. Keep your eye out for the strategy and let us know what you think. We'll be using the exhibition period to run an 'After Dark in the Junction' series of small pilot events. These events will be an opportunity for you to get involved, test some ideas in the draft strategy, and let us know what works.

If you're a local Bondi Junction business interested in being involved, please contact our Manager, Urban Design & Heritage at julia.hardiman@waverley.nsw.gov.au
