Bondi Junction Complete Streets Project

The Complete Streets project is part of our plan to enhance the vibrancy of Bondi Junction and its spaces. It involves greening and beautifying the footpaths and public places, making meeting places more vibrant and appealing, and improving connections for cycling, walking and access to public transport.

The Complete Streets Report outlines Council's public domain improvements plan for the coming 20 years.

About Complete Streets

Complete Streets is an approach to urban planning that considers the needs of all users to ensure the streets are pedestrian-friendly, provide good access to public transport, accommodate cyclists, are safe and benefit the local economy.

The key principles of Complete Streets are:

Safe and efficient

Safe and efficient

"Complete Streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, and bicycle to work. They allow buses to run on time and make it safe for people to walk to and from train stations.”

- Complete Streets Coalition

Place making

Place making

Complete Streets are more than just transport corridors: they are the main public space of town centres; they inform the retail, cultural and leisure experience; and they can provide inspiration with spontaneous activity, public art, creative lighting and greenery.

Healthy

Healthy

Complete Streets can enhance the everyday quality of life for residents, workers and visitors by providing improved access and safe space for walking and cycling to encourage more physically active lifestyles.

Economic

Economic

Complete Streets can stimulate economic growth by creating attractive places with greater street activity, increasing the number of potential customers passing shopfronts and the length of time spent in the town centre.

Walkable

Walkable

A city must be walkable to attract people and businesses. This involves considering the needs of pedestrians and vehicles equally, planting trees and improving access for cyclists.

Strategic

Strategic

Complete Streets aligns with the vision set out in the community strategic plan, Waverley Together 3.
